[Boatanchors] Stuff

I've really enjoyed this thread.

I keep trying to remember that I got into amateur radio
as a hobby. It's ok if I trade around a little or do
a little bit of ebay or hamfests on both the buyer and
seller sides. But for me it is not an "investment", except
maybe to keep things from going into a landfill somewhere.

The beauty of the free market system is that at any particular
point of sale a price can be reached that is acceptable to both
the buyer and the seller. The best kind of deal is when the
seller is glad it's gone and the buyer is glad to have it.
Neither should have to cheat to reach that conclusion.
If I sell and the buyer later turns it into a fortune...
God bless 'em.

And I've resolved that I'm not the right person to own an SX-88
or a vintage Ferarri (or a new Ferarri for that matter). If
someone gave me one I'd take it and try to make sure that it wasn't
in much worse shape later when I pass it on. But I'm not up to the task
of restoring rare objects and I have creditors who deserve the money
more than I deserve to have something like that sitting around gathering
dust.

(Which is one of the down-sides to the E-place... now it is much easier
to know that some old box lying around in my shack is really a rare
three-handled widget that is worth megabucks, sadly leading to the
conclusion that I have to make an economic decision about whether
I can afford to just let it sit there.)

Maybe there will be some time for the boatanchor equivalent of the
wine-and-cheese crowd after the debts stop stacking up and start
going down, God willing.
