What would be even better yet, considering the LARGE size of the files,
is have someone who has high speed service or a dedicated internet
connection, to download them all and then distribute them on a CD for
cost of materials and mailing.
I can't download them at the speed the server is going as my XYL
would kill me for tying up the phone line that long!

| Hi Tommy,
| I've been trying to get that file for a month or 2. Unfortunately
| it's on one of the slowest qsl.net servers, and seems to be impossible to
| retrieve. It's hard to complain about a "free" user-supported service,
| but there are several websites on qsl.net that have exactly the same
| problem, and are basically unusable because of it.
| Not all qsl.net websites are that bad, but none are better than just
| plain slow. The Hammarlund Historian site, <http://www.hammarlund.info>
| is a qsl..net site with many manuals for free downloading. I occasionally
| just give it a try to see how bad it is. I don't think it's timed out or
| stopped on me lately, but this AM it was downloading at about 8kbps,
| probably OK for dialup connections, but I often find 40+kbps on other
| sites, and sometimes 200+. It does depend upon time of day traffic, etc.
| I know one club (not mine) that has recently bought it's own domain
| name and is paying for server space elsewhere, after giving up at qsl.net.
| I used to get timed out every month when I tried to download their
| newsletter, now it takes less than 5 seconds. It's only costing them
| something like $40/yr for the server space, so it's not unaffordable to
| get things done right.
| If anyone wants to know where they got it, I'll let them know. It's a
| commercial operation, I have no relationship with it. I do have a
| relationship (not financial) with the provider I have my own
| www.boatanchors.net site on, it's also available commercially at similar
| low prices. Our own club has it's site there also, www.nbarc.org and
| newsletter downloads are quick.
| All that said, I haven't solved your problem. If anyone happens to
| have had success downloading "Getting the Most From Your AR-88" by D.M.
| Gill from: http://www.qsl.net/w2vtm/rca_equip.html or has the file, I'm
| sure Tommy, and I, would love to have you email it to us.
