Actually, I've had fun. I remarried after the death of my wife and told my
intended that I had a mistress and a girl friend. The mistress was out in
the car (ICOM 706) and my girlfriend was a lady of 81 years, we had both
seen the passing of our friends/spouses. The work in electronics has been
challenging and profitible, it has put food in the kitchen for 40+ years.
The only regret is the sadness that those "youngsters" are missing the fun
of smoking circuits, HV jolts and so on. I am still involved here at the
house where I produce PCB on a CNC machine. But the joy of building circuits
is not taught nor may it be demostrated-tisk, the death of Heath kit. To the
negative the State of Texas is placing a premium on "certification" in many
fields. Dinosaurs like myself may build a computer (I've lost count) load
operating systems, network them together (the house and shop are buried in
them) and I have made more Cat 5 cables then I want to think about and yet I
can not get a "certification" without going back to school. When you are 60
this doesn't make sense. So, I stood before the "President" of DFW Airport,
whom you get to know after 22 years, and say "I am an endangered spieces, a
dinosaur". Thus we are but who can make it work when the batteries are dead,
the mfgr doesn't make it anymore or someone misplaced the troubleshooting
flowchart and the laptop.
