To any ham that likes the glow in night equipment, alas, we are dinosaurs.
If a new graduate of any of the trade schools has any idea about
troubleshooting to the component level, I would like to meet them. The Last
5 years at a LARGE international airport was spent bringing trainees into
the real world. That system now is now replaced with laptops, analyzing and
R&R-remove and replace. Then whatever is broken is sent to a warehouse
retested to a new level (dumber?) then the board is replaced or tagged
NRtz-not repairable here and trashed. Cost effectiveness it is called. No
wonder all the middle class position are gone, we not cost effective. We
just kept everything functioning for a quarter century, designing new boards
when we couldn't get replacement parts, scavenging, scrounging, whatever was
needed. Now if doesn't come in a bubble, antistatic pack with instructions
the "technician" is lost.
PS they replaced me also.
