Greetings To One And All,
You are welcome to glow with us, even if the vacuum tubes you own are not
residing in something, anything, made by Hallicrafters. As long as you are a
radio hobbyist with an interest in vintage home radios, short-wave receivers,
mono or stereo systems, Ham radio gear, test equipment, old commercial gear,
WW1/WW2/Korean/Vietnam military electronics, telegraph and related keys ... Come
on in and let's play some propagation ping pong off the old D layer!
Please join us on Sunday September 25th for the HCI 20 meter Net. There will be
an update on the historic Halligan project as it nears production and release.
What an awesome and brain bending adventure this has turned out to be!
Incredible is as close of a descriptive word as I can think of, but this is well
beyond the boundaries set by the time space continuum for said term. It is a
honor to have been entrusted with the care of, protection of and sharing of
these irreplaceable time snapshots of radio from its birth, through childhood,
adolescent years with typical growing pains and then into becoming a young
adult. It is about here that vintage ends and solid state begins, and where this
historic material stops, but that vintage vacuum glow continues, forever.
I am hoping to share with you the same sensation I felt when these actual
fragments of the foundation of radio made me stop and realize what it was that I
held in my hands. Not just a video, but an absolutely unique look into William
Halligan, Sr., the man and his experiences as he and radio grew up together. Not
a video you watch once and put it on a shelf to collect dust. Every time I
'watch' this incredible forty-five minutes of an up close and extremely personal
look into the life of William Halligan, Sr., I hear something I missed
previously. Even my fourteen year old grandson told me to let it play, as he
found it fascinating! Now that stopped me in my tracks, as I was waiting to hear
the infamous teenage one word description of almost everything, "boring!".
This is about Bill Halligan and you get to see him as just what he was, a man.
Once you watch him and listen to what he has to say, you will understand how and
why he accomplished what he did. What's more, you will have a real sense
withinof having actually known him. It is impossible to explain, but once you
see and hear it, it makes you feel as if you really knew and called this man,
friend. You will understand after you watch it!
because this incredible video, provided by Dr. Max De Henseler, HB9RS, filmed in
his NYC apartment in 1983 by a professional cameraman, with his friend Bill
Halligan, W9AC is the only one of its kind known to exist, you need to
experience it! It transcends all of radio, as these men who shaped the
communications world were all interconnected in myriads of ways. Together they
forever altered the way man communicates. Let us never forget their
contributions accomplished through personal hardship, uncounted failures,
financial struggles, keeping a company not allowed to make any profit on
government military contracts alive through two wars and convincing skeptics it
was not Science Fiction.
The pre-Net will commence at 12:45 PM EDT, (1645 UTC) and the Net proper starts
at 1:15 PM EDT, (1715 UTC)
The frequency will be 14.293 MHZ usb +/- for key clicks, mike splatter and if
the precipitation prognosticator is correct, the rattling reverberations of ten
thousand thunders as enough water to float a freighter out of dry dock pours
from the clouds like a fire hydrant with more holes in it than a teenage boy's
gym sweat socks!
So if KG4KZG, Dale in southern Florida and K0EJF, Jerry in Denver, Colorado can
bail me out if the NCS station goes "GLUG!"it will be appreciated by myself and
those others who are waiting their turn at the mike! Seriously, severe storms
are called for, so if one of you can step in, if I have to pull the plug, just
do it!
