We should get the US government to re establish them.

Assign a number of R-390's remotely controlled via the internet.

You would go to the site, connect to a free R-390, then set the frequency, 
function, limiter and RF gain.
The web page should have a R-390 panel which would indicate the switch 
settings and the S meter readings.
Who knows the US government would end up with wage-free monitoring of HF.

I saw at a trade show many years ago a Collins receiver that was solid 
state and could be remotely controlled. Anyone have any details of this set?

Maybe a member who has one of these sets could set his with the web facility.
