For that matter, there are people in the business of selling your stuff on
ebay. I don't know how they usually split the take. Point is that some
stuff even if it's valuable won't bring anything, and other stuff that
may not seem all that valuable may happen to be in great demand. So you
want to at least look at ebay as a guide to pricing/value before you
throw anything away.
Another thought, esp. if there are a lot of parts, is that here and
there are groups, typically an individual takes it upon himself to
do electronics/radio work with kids, and they could use the stuff.
But there's organized way I know of to locate such project groups.
I know one in Little Rock, and a couple in the Chicago area.
And as an alternative to sending it to the dump, you could take it to
some ham clubs and offer it for give away. At least it might find a
good home that way.
