[Boatanchors] Help with NC-2-40D Band Indicator Mechanism

Hello,

I have almost completed the restoration on a National NC-2-40D. One
problem remains that has me stumped and I need to be pointed in the right
direction to solve it.

This problem concerns band indicator mechanism that is used to show what
frequency range the receiver is tuning is broken. As the tray is moved,
this indicator should show what band in being tuned. The metal cable that
is used to move the band indicator function much like a tuning dial
pointer. The exact problem is that the cable has been broken in several
pieces and its ends are frayed. To repair this cable and to get the
mechanism functioning again, I need information on how the cable is run
between the sliding tray and the chassis/cabinet.

Unfortunately, the NC-2-40D manual, paragraph 5-6, only covers only the
band indicator adjustment; there is no information on how the cable is
strung. The Rider's Troubleshooter manual, Volume 15-19, has even less
information. I've done a Google search and have drawn a blank. There is a
Sam's Photofact, # 41-16, that might have the information I am looking. I
don't have this photofact.

If you have access to a Sam's 41-16, I would appreciate it if you would
check it to see if there is a stringing diagram or instruction. If there
is such a diagram, I'll obtain a copy of the Photofacts. Or, if you have
experience redoing the band indicator, I would appreciate any wisdom you
can pass on to me.

BTW: I checked my NC-200's. Their band indicator mechanism is different
from NC-2-40D.

Thanks,

Tom, K8JRM
