Some were used as phase-shift networks in RC oscillators, such as the
Heathkit SB-610 scopes where the networks were part of a 2-tone generator.

Hi Stanley,
I don't know about documentation on them, but very often the schematic
would show what was inside of them, component wise. They were very
often used for the plate resistor, coupling capacitor and grid resistor
and/or AGC components in small radios, and sometimes (usually) it was
sufficient just to replace them with generic resistors/capacitors etc as
those circuits usually aren't critical.
Now, the sync circuits in old TV's are another story as they were more
critical of time constants etc.
