Bill I had a V Mk 3 one time back in the early 70's. It provided yeoman's
service and only gave two problems over about 6 years.
One of those problems was transmitting into a bad antenna that caused a
mismatch which melted the solder in the stator of the neutralizing cap. It
shorted to the rotor and blew the fuse. The other problem was the driver
tube went soft and a replacement fixed it.
I used it a lot, but keep in mind it does not have a lot of the bells and
whistles the modern stuff has, passband tuning, filters, etc. I liked mine
and the next radio was a Yaesu FT 301D some years later. I did not like the
301D in comparison to the Galaxy.
Pretty straightforward radio but the sweep tubes can cost a buck or two.
That's why I don't own any radio with them as finals.
As for price, I don't know. I won't pay a lot for any gear so I am not sure
what the financial situation is for you. Having the power supply with it
will help, so probably around $75 would be my max. But keep in mind my
latest acquisition was a nice 75A2 for about 100 dollars. It needed some
minor work but it looked good. Price is always objective.
