One of my uncles, a machinist for Sylvania (he made vacuum-tight bellows
out of bar stock, among other interesting things), once asked me if
"Sangamo" was a Japanese brand, back in the early 1960s. He wasn't much
into electronics himself, but knew that lots of folks who _were_ didn't
hold Japanese components and assembled products in a lot of esteem.

My, how things have changed. The Japanese started off as fair-to-middlin'
copyists, and then developed some truly inspired engineers.

I don't have any direct experience with either Chinese or Russian glowbuggy
bits, and so have little or nothing of import to say about them.
