This has nothing to do with ebay. What you see is 
a religion ('Subjective audiophilia'). It has many
manifestations, one of which is an inane need to
spend exhorbitant amounts of money for supposedly
(but unfortunately, imaginary) improvements to
sound quality. Cables are a common vehicle for 
those that take advantage of the religious
worshippers, but there are many others.
