In the 50's and early 60's I lived around the corner from a Lafayette store
in the Bronx, NYC. It was like having my own stock of everything electronic a
short walk away. I didn't even have to cross the street. My only problem was
planning ahead since they closed nights and Sunday. Saturday was a mad house
of people with brown paper bags full of tubes from their TV and radios to
have them tested.
The store help were mainly hams and CBers. Most of the stock was in bins in
the back. You could by one 1/2 watt resistor, if that's all you needed.
I lived in Orlando for a while and found Skycraft. It was heaven. I visit
that store whenever I am in Orlando and fly back with what I can carry.
