[Boatanchors] Radio Shack and more

Duane,

It was a link of an item I bought 3 weeks ago, it is not for sale, is not up
for auction, it was to show other hams something unusual that I bought for a
BA project. The initial purpose of the post was in part to move the subject
back to boatanchors and to help move the group off of an extended discussion
about Radio Shack and its business model. (Something I would have expected
the moderator to step in on.)

I have just checked the, List Posting Guidelines, The Mailman at qth.net FAQ as
well as the specific guidelines for this list. I cannot find any prohibition
against references to eBay or auctions at all. If this type of reference is
so troublesome as to result in an email from the moderator, I suggest that
it be added to these areas.

So I am clear it is OK to discuss the hiring, pay, promotion and marketing
practices of Radio Shack on the Boatanchor list, but one is to never, never,
never show a boatanchor pic by referring to a picture of an unusual radio
one bought off of eBay... Now on that subject I could buy something on eBay
and list it for sale here right? I can just never refer to it in any fashion
at all if it is an eBay listing.

Be real clear on this the auction is over, I was the buyer not the seller
and it is not for sale. I would be real interested in the "trouble that this
causes every time it happens?"

And yes this is going to the list because I think it deserves an open
discussion on this issue as well as what other "double super secret rules"
exist so we can all follow them. On that matter I certainly do not want to
see FA posts but I see no harm in referring to a past auction.

I have supported and will continue to support Allan financially or otherwise
but hidden rules are tough to follow. I am not going to bother Allen with
this silly matter but by all means feel free to forward it to him if you
think it is appropriate.

Carl,

You know, it has been said many times, absolutely no posting of EBAY links
on
this list for any reason whatsoever. Trouble starts every single time,
removal
is standard procedure.

It sure would be nice if you guys would respect the wishes of the owner and
not
behave like this.

This is to you and 'not' to the list.

I am sending it along to Al Waller, K3TKJ and you can deal with him.

Hi Jim,
Well right ahead of it is an Atwater Kent model 55 that my grandmother
bought new in 29. I have had the radio sans cabinet and speaker since about
65. Finally found a cabinet on Ebay that I pick up next week. I have the
radio perking along fine after a weekend of work. Now I just have to clean
off the grunge including oil... yes motor oil that has gotten on it over the
years.

Next is a circa 50's HF ship to shore radio I bought of eBay earlier in the
month http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5770616583. The
rcvr covers 160-40 and the transmitter is set up to do the same. Nicely
plate modulated so should be a fun little rig. Unfortunately the seller did
an awful job of packing and the PS was destroyed in shipping. One wrap of
the small bubble wrap and stuffed into a homemade cardboard box. I
complained and was told "Hey I even put an extra piece of cardboard in the
bottom, besides you should have purchased shipping insurance....."

I was then going to move onto a HB 813 modulated by two 811As. I want to use
it with the Frankenradio http://home.comcast.net/~chnord/Frankenradio.htm
which up to now has been my most difficult project. I have all the parts and
have pretty much narrowed down the circuit I will use, but I think I will
move on to the HRO first as that thing is just begging to be made whole
again. That would be a real goof to get that up, running and looking nice.
I have wanted to play with a HRO-60 for some time so I guess this is a case
of "Be careful what you wish for...."

Good idea Carl. That HRO 60 you discovered will be a wonderful radio when
you finish the restoration. I have a rack mount HRO-60T with the HRO-60RS
(rack mount speaker), but I don't have the rack. I found a cabinet that
holds both and have it paired with a Globe King 500A.

When are you going to get after the 60?
