It's the commission part that urkes me when I go in a RS to look for
something... which is hardly
every anymore since they did away with all the ham gear of any kind....
Because of the commission part, as soon as you walk in the door a
salesperson or two are on you
like snot on a flagpole, trying to let me know about something that I
couldnt care less about....
all I came in for was a connector or a minibox or something like that (I
would NEVER buy anything
bigger like coax cable from RS... maybe twin lead, but Home Depot and
Lowes is better even for that).
It's like trying to knock doggie doo off the bottom of your shoe to get
rid of a salesman in RS. Except, if you tell them outright that all
youre looking for is a particular part that they know is low cost or
similar, THEN they will ignore the hell out of you and at times I can
also see the disgust and disdain in their looks and hear it in the tone
of their voice. That continues even when I get to the counter to pay.
I've had sales people in RS blatantly ignore me or run off when another
customer comes in so that they can "launch" toward the new potentially
high commission after theyve found out that "it aint gonna happen" with me.
Makes me yearn for the good old Lafayette Radio days..... Thank
goodness we have two or three electronics supply stores here that I
frequent often. THEY have a true treasure trove of all kinds of parts
at reasonable prices. Because we have a number of repair facilities
here, they sell wholesale and you can spend hours just roaming the
aisles, and their employees know their stuff too.... They can find you
either the original or a replacement if they dont have the original.
And, there's no disgust if all you need is one
five watt resistor or a single diode .....
