Let me ask this question....if you could find and populate the 10 sockets
of the Viking crystal deck with CW/AM crystals, what frequencies would
you pick ?

I'm not sure but is the question about "What crystals to use in a Viking"
or "What crystals do I plan to plug into a Viking crystal deck (if I find
one)??????
I sold my Viking II a while back but if the question is the former, then the
simple answer is most crystals between 1.75mc and 7.5mc would work nicely.
That said, it pays to review how the Viking II operates to ensure proper
operation with crystals. As I recall, in the lower bands (160-80) straight thru
operation is obtained. On 20-10m, the rig uses frequency doubling. ( I
think I remember this correctly. But don't count on it without looking at an
operating manual first)
Also, the Viking II was capable of doubling in the final stage if a high
impedance antenna was used. One might find himself tuning up on a harmonic
instead of the fundamental. Making sure you use plenty of coupling is the key
to staying out of trouble here.
Finally, I had one or two crystals in the rig at the 80m and 40m AM
frequencies. Most of the time, I relied on the VFO if working outside these two
spots.
Nice transmitter if anyone is looking to have a solid rig. Highly
recommended. Built like a tank and glows nicely in the dark.
