[Boatanchors] Atlas-210X Service Bulletins

Many thanks Al!

I've had my Atlas-210X for 20 years, and enjoy it a lot. I have worked so
much DX from the mobile that it's astonishing. The brickwall filter is
amazing, too. Fantastic shape factor.

Anyhow, I was thinking of driver-xstr emitter bypassing, too, so it's good
to see another op that has some notes to look at.

By the way, the way the output is set up on a 210X, the SWR sensing circuit
(transformer and cap to sense in-phase I and E, respectively) is located
AFTER the changeover relay. That means that if the relay fails open, there's
NO protection to the finals.

It's easy to swap the cabling and set it up so that the RF feeds the
Breune-type SWR bridge BEFORE the RF gets to the relay contacts. That way,
if the relay fails, the bridge sends an RF-derived error signal (hey, I'm
not looking into 50-ohms resistive; current and voltage are w-a-a-a-y out of
phase) back to the pre-driver, and the $$ PA xstrs are saved.

I have done this to my rig years ago, but have never seen any other
reference to this anywhere else.

Hi Alex,
I picked up a 210 a yr ago this wk, and it's still awaiting my attn to
get it going properly. It was working somewhat when I got it, but after
some judicious (maybe not judicious enuf) cleaning, it decided not to
cooperate.
Back then I found this site:
http://www.davepick.btinternet.co.uk/atlas/mods.htm
with a lot of info, incl mods and at least some Atlas bulletins. I see
now that he also links to Hamanuals:
http://www.hamanuals.com/miscmans.html
where you can download a pdf of the svc manuals. I don't think that was
available a yr ago, I just saved it & will get back to work when I get a
round tuit.
Good luck, keep us informed of your progress, maybe that'll motivate
me.
