Thank you all for the comments on the NCX-3. I will know shortly if this
project is meant to be. Sounds like it might be a fun restoration. I have other
equipment, but I seem to be happiest when I have something to work on and spend
my money on.
My most recent project has been a set of the Morrow Twins and matching 110V
power supply/speaker. I replaced all paper and electrolytics, repainted the
cabinets (I was able to match the grey hammertone at the hardware store,
relettered the panels (which are engraved).
Since completing this project, I have done some AM on 20M. Routinely working
from my QTH in Oregon to Ohio, Chicago area, eastern Canada, etc. all with the
40W output of the Morrow.
For those not familiar with the Morrow Twins, they are a matching receiver
and transmitter, almost identical in appearance, made primarily for mobile use,
but make a neat little desktop station with the matching PS/speaker. The
transmitter uses a single 6146 in the final for about 40W output 80-10M, AM & CW.
the two units are usable separately, but when used together, they slide
together vertically to form a single unit that has PTT and antenna switching.
Been meaning to blow my horn about these for awhile, because I'm really proud
of the way they look and operate.
Here in Oregon, we're proud of stuff made in Oregon. These radios were made
in Salem, Oregon about 1957 by the Morrow Radio Co.
Thanks
