When I was first married, I had the Heathkit mobile
"twins" (Cheyenne and Comanche) in the front seat of a
1961 Ford Falcon. Later that year I went to 2 meter
FM with a Motorola T43GGV in the trunk and a "little"
control head in front. My wife never "looked back"
from that. The control head was so much smaller that
she hasn't griped in the 40 years (this June) that we
have been married. In fact, she wants radios in the
car whenever we go on a trip even though she has never
had any interest in getting a license.

I did acquire a "spider" tri-band quad (10, 15, 20
meters) that I put together and was contemplating
putting up at another location about 35 years ago. I
looked around and decided that there just wasn't
enough clearance to the power lines, etc., to safely
put it up. My wife came out into the back yard and
told me in no uncertain terms that the quad was NOT
going up. She said that the "other" type of antenna
(yagis) were "OK" but not the quad. To this day she
still thinks that she "won out" on the quad.

In my case, when I was dating my wife, I had only
recently graduated from college, was broke, living in
an apartment. My only ham radio was a 2 meter Kenwood
TR7600. So that little TR7600 was ham radio to her
when we got married. Somewhere between then and now
there was a rude awakening when I got the BA craze and
filled the spare bedroom with old big heavy radios
