Gentlemen,
It is that time of year again when we in the UK recall with gratitude the part played by the more mature members of our hobby who were involved in the fighting for peace and freedom during world war two.
Today has a poignancy of unusual proportions in this country. It is the day of the commencement of the celebration of what we know as VE day (Victory in Europe)
The added significance is, that tomorrow is not only the day of commemeration of the termination of hostilities but also we are voting in a General Election where we will chose a new Government.
Regardless of our views or those who may be reading this with reference to the political persuation that we might have, it is vitally important that we remember those who fought and gave everything that we might freely go to the polls tomorrow, and I accent the word FREELY.
Sixty or so years back we had a tough time and things looked black in 1940 and 41 but friendship and a common belief in freedom from oppression prevailed and to those who may be reading this and were involved, thanks for your efforts, you are not forgotten whichever country you may call home.
For those who didn't make it all the way through to VE day, spare a thought for them and offer a silent prayer to your God for their courage in giving us in Great Britain the choice of voting and not having to live under an invader. We came pretty close and we are eternally grateful to them and you and the English Channel.
Thank you for letting me express my thanks and those of my family and friends for the gift that you gave us of being able to make up our own minds tomorrow.
