[Boatanchors] Refinishing front panels-- engraved type

G';day ...    I have used the  artists acrylic water based  paint with
excellent results.. In addition to others comments, the finishing off
with a damp cloth is fine  but  after allowing to harden, any futher
traces of excess  fill are taken off by using a  car polish containing
a fine abrasive--- cleans it loverly and  imparts a  great satin
finish.
 Unfortunately I can't suggest what you do to fill in the engravings
on  wrinkle finish panels /knobs
