To make intelligent comments, we really need a schematic diagram. I'd trace the
thing out and draw up a diagram before risking blowing up parts that will be
hard to get, at best.  (Even a hand drawn thing would be a really big help) For
magnetics, ohmmeter readings would help a lot.
