I agree with Jeff in regard to tube equipment: Sure, they are old, heavy and hard to get parts, (If I look hard enough, I could find the parts somewhere in my garage!) but in my case, they are much easier to understand and to work on.
As an OT that really did not keep up with the modern-day technology, it is impossible for me to work on my own equipment - TS-440, TS-850, etc. etc.
I started out in high school radio class building superhet radios and can still remember the theory (See, the CRS disease I have is not 100%!); gee, 6 volts on the filaments, 250 on the screen grids and plate. Still have the chassis punches for octal sockets and a good supply of # 6-32 bolts and nuts.
