Art K5FNQ,
One way out is to mount 8 pin octal sockets into the cap chassis holes.
Then mount the new smaller caps into an 8 pin relay plug.
The R390 receiver guys have been placing 3 caps into relay cases
and plugging them in as replacement caps for some years now.
The receivers have 3 section plug in caps that are now very hard to find.
An 8 pin relay with a plastic top is opened up by removing the screws around
the base. The socket pins are heated with an iron and the relay removed. The
caps are soldered back in the socket pins as needed and the cover replaced.
This makes a plug in replacement with caps equal to the original values.
All kind of cap values can get squeezed into the relay cases.
If your anchor uses chassis mount caps, you can often enlarge the chassis
hole to
accept an 8 pin socket. Then build up a cap unit to meet the requirements.
Some times two old caps can be replaced with one new socket and a built up
relay package.
