[Boatanchors] SSB and carrier insertion?

As far as I know there is nothing wrong with using a sideband + carrier as 
AM transmission on the ham bands.  The only difference between this and DSB 
with carrier is it takes up half of the band width.  I have used this mode 
many times and have had many contacts with USB w/carrier and LSB w/carrier 
for AM contacts using a old Central Electronics 20A + linear.
