Well I am 73 years in this world and I was always under the impression a 
a mile was 5280 feet.
In airplanes we us MPH KPH and Mach all depending on what you are flying 
  and in most cases we use nautical miles for planning.
Mach is never referred to anything except Mach because it is a 
conversion of true airspeed vs altitude and temp/
