Agreed, although they are fun for band-scanning and in my rural area, I
typically leave the IF in wideband position in the active part of the
aircraft band and hear all kinds of stuff that I'd miss with a narrow IF.
Since the topic of ACL has come up again, I wonder if anyone else has
(or has info about) the SR-502-1 HF receiver? It's similar in design to
the SR-209, 2U high, dual bays, with the nixie freq. counter display in
the left side and 0.5-30 Mhz tuner in the right. Continuous tuning, no
bandswitching, good Collins filters, and lots of good sounding audio.
Like the SR-209, all solid state (nuvistors were used in the previous
models). Not premium but "close"... and the only one I've seen or
heard of...
