When I was first licensed in 1959 even the "low end"
receivers cost around $65 new (factory built) and the
cheapest transmitter in kit form (CW only) was about
$35.  In 2005 dollars that is well over $500 and the
equipment was definitely not as "good" as what is
available now.

If I remember correctly, my father was making between
$90 and $100 a week in 1959 and he had a pretty good
job.

Thus, what equipment costs these days compared with
the "goode olde dayes" is considerably cheaper and of
better quality when purchasing power of the dollar is
considered.

and wait for a reply, You can do almost as well on CB
