The 6C4, 6AQ5 combination is a perfectly acceptable "sub" for the single tube 6T9 rig!
You will have a lot of fun with it! It will run around 5-6 watts out with about 250 volts B+.
Mine has been successful on 160-20 meters with the fundamental crystals.
You can use say 40 meters crystals and double in the PA to 20 meters
but you will lose some power output in the process!

Subject: [Boatanchors] Tube QRP transmitter design

| Hi,
|
| First, I hope this isn't too "OT" for this list, it WILL be used with an
| SP-600.
|
| I'm considering building a little "Glowbug" "QRP" CW transmitter, probably for
| 40M. May use plug in coils for different bands (like 30M etc). I would like
| to use a 6AQ5 as the "final" as I have one, and would "like" to have a VFO if
| possible (stability may be a problem there?) Otherwise, except for the RF
| chokes I have "most" of the needed parts, including a punched chassis, small
| power Xformer etc.
|
| Can anyone here point me to an On-web source for various designs? I have the
| 73 ARRL handbook which has a nice little 10W transmitter that could probably
| be adapted to a 6AQ5 final with a (6C4?) triode oscillator (it uses a 6T9
| Compactron which I DON'T have).
|
| This rig would probably be used with my recently overhauled Hammarlund SP-600
| "boatanchor" receiver.
