Yep, I had one when I was about age 11 in about 1966. The kit was built 
on an open-bottom steel chassis, with no enclosure. The power-supply 
was a hot-chassis design that simply half-wave rectified the AC line 
for the B+ supply. It "Edu-Kit'd" me about hot-chassis sets when I was 
trying to hook up a ground wire to one of the receiver designs. I was 
leery of using it after that experience.

Wasn't Edlie Electronics the manufacturer of the Edu-Kit? I think 
that's where I bought mine. They're still in business:
