BYOBB dudes and let's party! No booze, that means "Bring Your Own Burgers and
Buns". This weekend is a three day annual American Independence Day eat, drink
and be merry event, for come Tuesday you are on a serious fat free, sugar free
and flavor free diet! So light up those charcoal grills and let those wonderful
briquettes add that cooked outside flavor and smell that you can't get any other
way! Light up the Halli meanwhile, as it needs to do a little cooking of its own
to get ready to party! Light up, well, unless you are one of those barbecuing
challenged wimps who uses propane gas to grill a half pound burger or
frankfurter or juicy T-bone steak on, then sprinkle some kind of seasoning upon
the meat to add the smell of Hickory from those 'pretend' wood logs the natural
gas is whooshing out of. Then some of that stuff you squirt out of a plastic jug
that adds the flavor only real wood smoke can impart to food. Oh yes, for the
guy who has this gas trickery down to an art form, sprinkle some of the actual
briquette ashes you got from a buddy's grill to make everyone think you slaved
for half a day with your Swiss Army knife hacking up that deceased tree in the
nearby county Nature Preserve and dragging it through a dense forest for two
miles, using the paved bicycle trail, to your waiting four wheel drive pickup,
then with your last ounce of strength wrestled those six inch logs into the wood
storage box, right beside the ice chest you filled with chipped ice at 7COME11
on your way earlier to the hardware store to buy a fresh propane log!

So while the food is cooking, hand off that Chef's hat with the digital
timer/alarm built into the sun blocking brim, and two foot long harpoon fork
thing to your sixteen year old nephew to watch, instead of your sister's
thirteen year old daughter wearing that Ham Radio bikini, you know, two dots and
one dash! Join me for the HCI Sunday July 3rd edition of the Hallicrafters
Collectors International 20 meter Net as the pre-Net portion will commence at
12:45 PM EDT, (1645 UTC). Shake those buns and get checked in so you can rush
back to be sure your nephew does not strain himself trying to watch the meat on
the grill out of his left eye and your niece with his right eye! No meat loaf
brain, don't shake those buns that the burgers and dogs slide into, shake those
buns you sit on! Move it! Check in so you can check out those succulent sizzling
steaks!

All right, it is now 1:15 PM EDT, (1715 UTC), and time for the HCI fourth of
July Bust Your Buns For A Burger 20 Meter Net. Are you tuned to 14.293 MHZ usb
+/- for key clicks, mike splatter and some QRM that sounds like a belching Pork
product on an adjacent frequency? Relax, no problem. Just a hot air balloonist
with the VOX stuck in the "it won't turn off!" position, wearing a headset and
venting excess gas! Sorry, that sound like a tuba trying to cough up the Polka
Band leaders hair piece is actually that bloated balloon piloted by Captain
Smog, who is dangling by his belt from some nylon rope things desperately
trying to shut off the gas vent valve, now starting to sound like two outhouses
dueling it out for the top seat in the county fair's annual all you can eat and
drink Bratwurst and Beer competition. The deflating hot air gas bag is slowly
starting to look like one of those balloon animals those Circus Clowns make and
sell you for five bucks! Stay tuned, as this event could become more than just a
lot of creative hot air!

I hope to hear a whole herd of you today for the HCI 20 meter Net, so whether it
is a Halli or some other vintage rig, just as long as the rig or the operator
glow in the dark, it is legal! And if neither glow, well what the heck, it is
Independence Day weekend, so we will let you lie with no penalty, even if it is
Sunday. But as far as the 'forgiveness' for the for fun harmless little glowing
lie goes, well ...we may need to consult with a higher power there.
