OR ...   If you have a Simpson 260 multimeter (doesn't everyone?) you 
can do the same test by connecting it across the coil, set it to Ohms, 
and switch the polarity reversing switch.  You will get a good "kick" 
each time you flip the switch.   Unless there is even ONE shorted turn.  
Then you'll only see a small "bump" if anything.
