Hi Brian,

Oh, my golly, small world! And long time no chat?

I'ld love to have a copy of that article. I didn't know it was in R&H - I designed mine
from scratch when I was at high school in NZ - might have been about 1954 -
someone else in the group may have had access to the R&H mag. We used the
sets for reporting at sports day events at the high school - spread out over a very
large campus - sent the results to the base station to be announced over the
school's PA.

We had just finished making one-valvers - also super-regens - that's where I got
the idea for the 2m HT - using 3Q5s and winding our own coils, and felt a bit of
VHF would be fun. Also, we felt that transmitting on HF would likely bring down
the wrath of the local RI.

***** Anyone interested in a PDF scan (about 2 Megs) of a Handie Talkie
construction article from Australias Radio and Hobbies for October 1950?
Uses a 958 and 3S4.
Just ask.

Brian Goldsmith.
