I too had an old TV transformer that sat in a garage that was humid.
I didn't expect trouble as it seemed dry but it did break over and after
that , I could never get it to clear up.
Put it in a dryer and if you happen to have a vacuum chamber , use that
as well.
If you can get a heated vacuum dessicator ...all the better.
Go to 100 C as the transformer should easily handle that.
