[Boatanchors] edgar bergen

Hi!
I know this is off-topic, but this is the list most likely to know the
answer...
This morning I was listening to "The Chase & Sanborn Show" when Edgar
Bergen was trying to explain shortwave to Charlie McCarthy. Charlie said,
"What a wonderful thing, shortwave, gets around everywhere..." I thought
that was a pretty good quote, for a dummy! Anyway, Bergen goes on to say,
"I used to be a ham." Of course, Charlie says, "USED to be?" Bergen
replies, "All amateur radio operators are called 'hams.'" My question is,
was Edgar Bergen a ham? I don't recall ever seeing that he was. 
The show was from April of 1943, by the way. And sorry for the off-topic
post!
