B-17F mean an F variant of the B-17 Flying Fortress aircraft.

The 50 represents a production block (or similiar) number

The "DL" indicates who made that particular aircraft.  Boeing was not the
sole manufacturer of B-17's;  Douglas and Vega made them also.  There may be
more.
