Hi Gary,

The best way to get a cabinet like that ready for painting is to take it 
somewhere and have it bead blasted.   Sometimes custom paint shops can do this for 
you.  Bead blasting is different from sand blasting in that the media used is 
much smaller than sand. It is actually microscopic beads of ground glass 
which will get into places where sand will not.
