A solution of Sodium Bisulfate in warm water will put a shine on copper, 
nickel and cadmium plating. Sodium Bisulfate is commonly sold in pint size bottles 
for a couple of $ as "pH-down" where swimming pool supplies are sold. It 
doesn't take much and works after a couple of minutes, be sure to clean parts 
thoroughly afterwards and wear rubber gloves. The cleaning afterwards is when the 
bright lustre returns. This is a rather drastic measure, is messy and you have 
to be careful with what you are doing but is necessary sometimes with 
discolored tarnished parts that need to look good afterwards.
