A solution of Sodium Bisulfate in warm water will put a shine on copper,
nickel and cadmium plating. Sodium Bisulfate is commonly sold in pint size bottles
for a couple of $ as "pH-down" where swimming pool supplies are sold. It
doesn't take much and works after a couple of minutes, be sure to clean parts
thoroughly afterwards and wear rubber gloves. The cleaning afterwards is when the
bright lustre returns. This is a rather drastic measure, is messy and you have
to be careful with what you are doing but is necessary sometimes with
discolored tarnished parts that need to look good afterwards.
