I seem to remember it as a 4 channel crystal controlled rig using Collins
mech filter in SSB generator. The octal sockets may have been for the
crystal ovens. Back when I was a new ensign in the Navy (1963) our squadron
had one of these at the pier to talk with the minesweeping boats.
The unit itself is not much of a prize as Hue mentioned, but the matching KW
amplifier was nice. PL-172 with about 2800 volts on the plate and 4
seperate tanks that were selected with a big Ledex rotary switch controlled
by the SSB-1. I used one for several years until an overseas move
necessitated some reduction in "toys"!

I received a request from a member recently for information on a RCA SSB-1
Mk4 Transceiver.
It appears to be a commercial unit fitted with miniature valves except for
the rectifier and three 6146's in the output.
His main query is that it has three octal sockets on the chassis marked
E201, 202 and 203. What plugs into them?
He would also like to get hold of the circuit.
Have you or any of your contacts ever come across one of these units?
