[Boatanchors] new year, new fun

Emboldened by my success with a quasi-Windom random dipole, I've decided
to try this trick at work too.

Picture a huge old warehouse with lots of roof real-estate and a
smokestack with cel antennas on it. It's extremely noisy, at least as
far as VHF and UHF go, and in a big city.

I'm putting a homemade discone up for the scanner but I'd like an HF
antenna too. Is a garden variety dipole a good choice or do I have to
swap favors to get someone to climb the smokestack and go vertical?

Will RG8x be ok for the discone and dipole, assuming up to a 100' run?

And most importantly, what kind of unobtrusive Boatanchor do I need to
buy for work? The Hammarlund doesn't travel well (or I haven't found
the right handle yet) :)

I guess I need something that doesn't look impressive enough to steal,
and will stand up to a room full of computers (and rcv SSB). Any ideas
welcomed.

-thanks
