[Boatanchors] Clegg Alignment Informetion

I will have to look around and see if I can find my
manual on the FM-27B.

However, be warned that the transmitter is very
"dirty" and puts out several signals, although at a
reduced level, that are just a few hundred KHz from
the desired signal. Fortunately, most of the spurs
actually fall within the 2 meter amateur band and
won't get you a "pink ticket" from the FCC.
Unfortunately, they are definitely strong enough to
bring up repeaters several miles away, interfere with
simplex frequencies, and so on.

I have an FM-27B that Clegg sent me in 1973 to review
when I was the first FM Editor of CQ Magazine. The
spurs weren't so noticeable when there was not as much
activity on 2 meters. But, I soon found that when I
was operating using the Richardson, Texas, repeater
that has a 147.780 MHz input that I also was bringing
up the repeater that has a 146.010 MHz input and
146.610 MHz output. The "spurs" are fully modulated
just like on the desired signal.

The same thing happened on various other frequencies,
the transmitter spurs were either coming out on other
repeater frequencies or on simplex frequencies.

The unit is a little over 30 years old and was the
first attempt at making a unit that covered at least
the 2 MHz of the 2 meter band that FM operation was
confined to during the first half of the 1970s.

I am looking for the alignment instructions for a
Clegg FM-27B. The unit works, has good
sensitivity, but the meter isn,t aligned to zero center
scale when it receives the best.... Also it probably
hasn't had any alignment done in over 40years??
