Hi Fred,

The Hallicrafters S-38 series went all the wat through the E model.  The D 
and E models came in the traditional gray cabinets but there was also a blonde 
and mahagony finish cabinet for each. They were designated S-38 DB and DM and 
S-38 EB and EM respectively.  All the cabinets were metal. Then there was the 
SR-75 which was an S-38B with a 10 watt transmitter built in. It outwardly 
looked like an S-38B but there were transmitter controls on the rear panel.

I may have an S-38D available from an estate but it will be around the end of 
the month before I can get back there and evaluate it again.  As I remember, 
the cabinet was nice but the line cord had become frayed and was cut off for 
safety.

If you are going to play with any of these AC-DC sets, please consider 
getting an isolation transformer to use with them. They should be rewired with a 
polarized line cord at the least and a 3 wire cord for maximum protection.
