Hi Mark,
Usually, the switch shorted out the mic capsule on the primary side of the
impedance matching transformer. The primary is the lower resistance winding.
Frequently, Shure used an impedance switch as well. A long mic cable at high
impedance is a sure recipe for unwanted high frequency roll-off. The better
desks/consoles prefer a low impedance mic feed.
