I was talking about encrypting messages and then sending them over the AN/GRC 109 back in the good old days. The following link is a page that explains how the Diana system  works and how it was used. I have no idea who wrote the link page but from his words, he knows what he's talking about.
If you want you can use a magazine or a news paper to encrypt with. Make sure the receiving operator has an exact copy of your "secret sacred document" pad and knows where your message starts. Use the Tri-graph "not secret" to encode and decode. It's easy, just don't miss a letter or everything skews to garbage and you have to try to piece it back together ugh! Random cw letters are harder to copy than plain text. As a side note, Remember the famous american spy Johnny Walker and his family of spies. Guess what?, part of his sales to Russia were batches of  Diana one time pads. Thanks alot Johnny.
