[Boatanchors] PS for tube stuff: Follow up

All those wanting to play with electronics and just need a power
supply........
I built a power supply years ago and have no need for it today. It is built
with a sealed power transformer, two sealed chokes, and two oil filled
capacitors. The transformer and chokes are the same spec as Collins used in
the military 51J series. The output voltages are +250 VDC, +150 VDC, and 6.3
VAC. The rectifier is a 6X5 (a bit of a weenie rectifier, but used 6.3 volt
filament), and the 150 volt supply is stabilized with a OA2. It is crammed
into an 7X9 in. chassis with Superior Electric binding posts for the tie
points, and an octal socket and plug for those who want to cable the power
to another chassis.
I can supply a "front" and "underneath" photo to anyone who responds off
list.
This unit is available for the price of shipping to someone who will use it.
It will weigh, with packing, nearly twenty pounds, so postage will not be
free.
There will one or two of you that need the octal plug and nothing else but
let the younger folks have a shot.
Merry Christmas,.........Larry in Seattle

>From your questions, you seem to be really unfamiliar with tubes. I REALLY
would not even think about building a high power transmitter as a first
venture. Try something smaller first, perhaps a 5 to 20 W unit
using a 6L6 or something. I'm fairly expert at electronics, but would think
long and hard before attempting something like you are considering.

A few KV is DANGEROUS. So are RF burns. These things are NOT toys. You can
EASILY get killed.

Just my $.02 worth,

-John
