[Boatanchors] : PS for tube stuff?

As a general purpose bench supply for tube plate use, I'd choose something regulated that
can go from perhaps 25 to 350 or 450 VDC. If you are interested in strictly lo power, 25 ma
would likely be enough, but 100 ma would fulfill most needs, except for beefy transmitters
or amps. It's also enough to power many boat anchors of the military persuasion.

For filaments, the easy way to go is a transformer that puts out 6.3 V at a couple of amps.
If you need DC, there are plenty of bench supplies that will put out 0 to 15, 20, or 30 VDC
at a few amps. I Like Lambda or Kepco personally.

FWIW, a C supply is rarely necessary. If you need it, consider a string of 9V transistor
batteries.

Finally, if you are playing with filament (battery operated) tubes, I'd use D cells in a RS
holder, not a line operated supply. The cost of new tubes in case of an over voltage will
swamp any savings on batteries.

FWIW,
-John
