[Boatanchors] What VLF/LF Boatanchors are "affordable"

I enjoy the SRR-11, usually available for about 200.00. Beautiful projection
readout and lots of selectivity and dual conversion.

The cheap way to go is to build or buy a VLF converter for what you
have--just an oscillator and mixer.

Although a boatanchor by weight, but not by design is the HP Selective Level
Meter 3586. The ultimate VLF (and HF) receiver, reads down to 1/10 of a
cycle--120 dbm sensitivity and it goes down to 50 cycles--you can listen to
natural VLF, and Alpha/Omega. Available for under 200.00 . 17 Grand New.

Phil -

The Navy RAK receivers are around and usually cheap. Separate power
supply, weird antenna connector and so on. Barry the Hauser has the
market almost cornered on them last I knew, so he'd be a good one to
ask. Ken Gordon is also quite knowledegable about the circuit and has
been helping me to locate a RAL-8 to go with my RAK-8. He also has (or
had, last I knew) a few units to move.

Even if you do get a good deal on one ($50-$100), expect to pay a bit
for shipping if not local. They are in the 'original boatanchor'
category.
