Amazing Al! When I first got my license in 1970, a ham who
was a hotel worker and was constantly moving, gave me a
BC-342 and all I can say is it was a real BOATANCHOR. It
must have had a power supply because I did plug it in and
heard some foreign broadcasts but after a very short time it
went up in smoke. The old gentleman thought a new ham could
use some equipment since all I had at the time was a DX60A.
Bless his soul, he became a SK soon after that. He never
knew I took it out to sea (I am a retired Coast Guard
Radioman) and gave it a proper burial.
Just a tidbit from the past. I will never forget the kind
OM, but I do not want another one. hi,hi
