Last night I had the distinct pleasure of bringing my beloved Valiant and NC=300 back in the shack after a 5 or 6 year stint on the back room shelf.
Last week I put three new tables in the shack and I'm starting to bring a few radios off the shelf and back into the shack. The Valiant and NC-300 are the first pair. I've already realized that I'll need a little shelving to squeeze a few more radio pairs into my modest little shack, so thats why I was asking about shelving yesturday.
My thanks to all the folks who emailed me with suggestions and relating their personal experiences with shelving. For those folks who took a look at Brians webpage, I can't figure why the whole wall just doesn't collapse from the weight of all those heavy (HEAVY) radios :->
As several folks pointed out, there is wall shelving and there is WALL SHELVING. I have seen the lightweight stuff as well as the heavy weight stuff. I put up a small wall shelf for the RTTY stuff a few years ago and found the heavy weight wall shelving brackets and wall channel. I think I'll give that technique a try for a single shelf above the table. I dunno though, a 32V-2 and 75A-1 is alot of weight but yet I see Brian and others are successful with it. If I had any wood talent I'd build a gorgous shelf that sets on the table. I'm not, and my home made shelves always relect that :) So thats why I"m leaning towards a wall mounted shelf.
In the 'pathetic department', I blew out my Valiant 6 or maybe 7 years ago, stuck it on the shelf and slid another radio into the position. Now its 6 or 7 years later and its still unrepaired. Sheesh. So I'll have to repair the Valiant before I can even use it....
