GE Eugene,

Good luck setting up your shop/lab. Perhaps you might have indicated just
what type of electronics you are planning on restoring/servicing. Some of us
(me) work only on Boatanchors --- better described as tube-type gear.
Contrast this to today's SMT technology and the planning of a workshop/lab can be
as different as daylight and dark.

Personally, my shop is always a work in progress. I have a stock of some
2,000 or so vacuum tubes that were acquired over the years. Hamfests, closed
radio repair shops, etc..... Transformers, IF cans, power resistors, pots,
switches and such were gleaned from the same sources and sometimes from the
carcasses of junk rigs that have been tossed in the dumpster.

New capacitors and resistors are purchased from MOUSER ELECTRONICS. I keep
a stock of the most popular electrolytics plus coupling and bypass caps and
resistors. When the stock depletes, I re-order.

MOUSER ELECTRONICS has a nice selection of "KITS" in their catalog. They
have resistor kits, capacitor kits and several "prototype" ones depending on
what you need.

I have no financial interests in MOUSER......... They just happen to give me
good service and have most of the items I need.

One can also try ANTIQUE ELECTRONIC SUPPLY in Tempe, Arizona. DOW-KEY is
another electronics supplier as is NEWARK ELECTRONICS. I would suggest you
obtain catalogs from each of these and make your choices from there.

It's a nice feeling when you are restoring a rig to be able to reach in a
cabinet drawer and pull out a new "part" or tube..........especially when it's
2am and there is not another source within miles.

How would I build up my shop? Just the way I did. Over time and tailored
to the type of equipment I can work on.

Hope some of this helps. Others mileage may vary.
